Garmin® BaseCamp® provides an interface for viewing Garmin map products and managing geographic data. With BaseCamp, you can perform the following tasks: • Transfer data to and from your Garmin device. • Create, view, edit, and organize waypoints, routes, and tracks. • Find places, such as addresses, points of interest, and public land survey areas included in your detailed map data. • View map data in 2D and 3D. • View topographical information included in your detailed map data. • Geotag photos with geographical location information. • Print detailed topographical maps, PLS quads, and multi-page poster maps. • Download and view BirdsEye™ satellite imagery and topographic raster maps. • Import and view Garmin Custom Maps. • Create, share and download Garmin Adventures (http://adventures.garmin.com )
The BaseCamp utility is designed to work with your Garmin maps in order to survey the area and plan your trip by taking into consideration all the locations that you want to visit. It allows you to plan a driving route but also supports hiking, mountaineering, dirt biking, and other activities. In order to create a new route you just need to enter your waypoints and select the locations that you want to use. You can fine-tune the route by selecting the types of road, transportation and speed limits in order to accurately calculate the duration.
- The program is free to download and use
- You need to buy maps to use many of the program’s features
- The page of the tutorial videos can’t be found
- The introductory video didn’t work
After creating the waypoints and the route the application can help you transfer the data to the Garmin GPS in order to use it during the trip. You can also use the cloud storage provided by the myGarmin account in order to save the information for later. The program integrates the Garmin Adventures feature which enables you to share routes and comments with other users. You can also use the program to download satellite imagery from the Internet in order to add them to the maps installed on your device.

Can Basecamp be downloaded to an LG tablet with Android? I attempted this many times and it did not work. I do a lot of off road ATV Riding and need to change maps often.
The Basecamp application is not available for Android tablets. I have searched the store and there was nowhere mentioned about the Android operating system. There is also no in information on their website. Only downloads available were referred to the PC and MAC.
There is another page to check all the available apps for Android and iOS: http://www8.garmin.com/apps/
If you have loaded this garmin to a different computer etc, it overwrites the main file to prevent a second use. It has to be copied without running or loading it first.
Hi, On my new PC, I have Windows 10. BaseCamp is simple to install; the global map is functioning. Download of ‘OpenStreetMap’ and ‘OpenFietsMap’ did run without any error. However, BaseCamp only finds the global map and not any of the downloaded maps. How can I resolve this problem? Thanks, Bas.
You need to install the Garmin versions of the OpenStreepMap. Luckily, there is already a website that allows you to do so. Visit the website, select the desired map and download the Lite version. If BaseCamp is running, close it and launch the EXE file. Once the installation is finished, start BaseCamp and use the drop down menu to select the maps source files and it should be displayed.
Hi Stephen, Thanks for your answer.
Unfortunately, this was exactly what I did. I re-tried your steps, but still the same result: in the drop-down menu, only the ‘global map’ is shown.
How can I save and transfer past 4 years of maps and data to this newer version? I currently have the 18.104.22.168 version transfer.
You have to check the available BaseCamp tutorials from where you can learn how to organize the data, how to upgrade and perform various actions within the application, including backup and restore. Visit the link below to learn more about it.
The 1st thing you need to do when you by garmin, S to get the biggest memory card recommended for your device.
Secon get the latest version of Google Earth.
Why google Eric well because every data every trip is gonna be safe on Google Earth when you buy the brand new GPS you gonna hook it and you gonna download every pass trip from google earth to your garmin.
Every time I look at my Google airth I see all the trips that I have done since 2008.
And always make sure to update the GPS when it ask for it.
The .NET Framework 4.6 is not supported on this operating system. I have Windows 7.
That is wrong because NET Framework can be installed on Windows 7, even for version 4.6.2. I’ve checked the Microsoft website and the Net Framework page, and it says the following:On Windows 7 systems, the .NET Framework requires Windows 7 SP1. If you are on Windows 7 and have not yet installed Service Pack 1, you will need to do so before installing the .NET Framework. You probably lack the Service Pack 1 installation. To install it, go to Start and type Windows Update. Install the latest Service Pack for your Windows OS and then you’ll have the possibility to download and install Net Framework 4.6.x.

Is Basecamp compatible with Windows 10?
The system requirements for Garmin BaseCamp are as follows:
To obtain additional information about BaseCamp, visit the following page: http://www.garmin.com/en-US/shop/downloads/basecamp
Garmin BaseCamp is compatible with Windows 10.
Is there any plan to create an Android version of Garmin BaseCamp?
Only the developers hold this information, but given the fact that BaseCamp has been released a long time ago and Android is on the market for a very long time as well, I doubt we will see a version on the Android tablets and smartphones.
I see on the official website of BaseCamp that you can install it only on the Windows and Mac (and their versions): http://www.garmin.com/en-US/shop/downloads/basecamp
