Unfortunately, the app supports loading only JPEG, JPG, and BMP file formats, which is a major limitation in my opinion, since the array of popular image formats is much more extensive. The utility comes with a preview option that displays both the source image and the sketch, but the modifications you make to the original aren’t shown in real time within the mirrored preview. You need to press the ‘Convert’ button first to view the new appearance of the sketch.

You can convert an image to a sketch made in pen, pencil or pastel. Options include adjusting precision and line. Unfortunately, you cannot view results while you are moving the sliders, but only after you hit the convert button. Furthermore, you can add a texture to the output image. There are nine types that you can preview in a small window, and you can set them to either tile or stretch.
Once you are satisfied with the results, you can save the image to BMP, JPG or WMF file format, print it or send it to a friend (this feature did not work in our case).
The program’s interface won’t impress you too much. It is rather dull and unattractive, yet simple and easy to work with. All features are conveniently displayed on the main window, so that you can enable the tool’s functions quickly and easily. All you need to do is import the picture you intend to edit, select the drawing mode, and set the thickness of the drawing lines and the precision scale between the stylized copy and the original image. In addition, you can add a background to the sketch by selecting one of the nine texture presets available, or by loading a completely different image from your picture library.
- Supports three image formats only: JPEG, JPG, and BMP
- Can add a background image
- Doesn’t have an embedded image editor
- Simple application
- Lacks advanced settings
The program doesn’t have a built-in image editor. For casual editing needs, the program opens the Windows Paint app to make picture adjustments. It is also possible to send your creations via e-mail directly from the program. Yet, you need to have Outlook installed on your computer; otherwise, the e-mail function won’t be enabled. The program is just plain, simple, and easy to use. It is designed for home users who are looking for a straightforward solution to convert photos into ordinary sketches.
